Common Causes of No-Start We Can Fix at Our Margate, FL Auto ShopIt's important to take action when your engine first starts struggling to fire up as easily as it usually does. This will give you the best chance to address the problem before it worsens and prevents your car from starting at all, potentially leaving you stranded and in need of assistance. At J & C Car Repair, our local mechanics are experts at identifying and fixing issues that can cause no-start.

Why won't my car start?

Oftentimes, when a car won't start, problems with the battery/charging system are to blame. While we all know that forgetting to turn off your headlights can lead to a dead battery, there are several other common reasons why car batteries die, such as parasitic draws, old age, loose/corroded connections, and a faulty alternator. Signs of alternator trouble include malfunctioning electrical accessories, flickering/dimming headlights, and an illuminated warning light that reads ALT or GEN or flashes on in the shape of a little battery icon.

A faulty starter is another common reason that engines won't start. You've got evidence of a bad starter if your car won't start but your dash lights come on and you hear a clicking sound. A starter problem can also cause a grinding noise.

Fuel-related problems are also often to blame for no-start. If there's a problem with your fuel pump, then gas may not be able to transit from your tank to your engine. Symptoms of a bad fuel pump include sputtering, surging, and a whining noise coming from your gas tank. A clogged fuel filter can also make it very difficult for the engine to start. To avoid this issue, it's best to replace your fuel filter about every 25,000 miles. Dirty fuel injectors can also cause difficulty with getting your engine to fire up. Using a fuel additive can be helpful with eliminating contaminants from injectors.
